Herbert George Wells (21/09/1866 - 13/08/1946), thường được biết đến với cái tên H. G. Wells, là một nhà văn người Anh nổi tiếng với những tiểu thuyết khoa học viễn tưởng như The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The First Men in the Moon và The Island of Dr Moreau. Ông là một nhà văn của nhiều thể loại truyện, tiểu thuyết, bao gồm cả viễn tưởng, phi viễn tưởng hay các bài bình luận về lịch sử và xã hội. Wells cũng là một người theo chủ nghĩa xã hội, các tác phẩm của ông sau này thường nặng tính chính trị và giáo điều. Chỉ có những tác phẩm tiểu thuyết khoa học viễn tưởng của ông là vẫn còn rất được ưu chuộng hiện nay. Wells và Jules Verne thường được coi "cha đẻ của khoa học viễn tưởng".
